What is a Fair Atheist?

I get asked that a lot - what does it mean to be a Fair Atheist? Well, when asked I tell them "it's about being a good human being and not suppressing opinions and views of those that seek comfort in religion".
You see, it seem like every time I turn on the news there's a new story about some lawsuit somewhere lodged by some atheist organization to stop some kind of freedom of religion. Excuse me, but what was our country built on? Thank you.
These "atheist groups" have already succeeded in ending prayers in schools and before events, prevented a national day of prayer, turned Christmas parties for our children into "winter parties" and have managed to turn every holiday into a controversial politically incorrect statement. As a Fair Atheist, I think it's wrong and it is in fact suppressing the right of Christians, Jews, Muslims and every other religion out there to express their beliefs yet the Atheists demand that they be allowed to express their's? If an atheist is offended by it, just don't look at it or participate. As a Fair Atheist I do.
So - I thought I should set down some ground rules and start the Fair Atheist group that will do just that. Be FAIR human beings and be GOOD to one another regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, beliefs or capabilities. Are you a Fair Atheist? You just might be a Fair Atheist if you:
- Support your friends and family as they practice their beliefs without demanding them to shield them from yourself
- Do not make quick judgments about people's religions or beliefs
- Practice the art of being a good human being by being good to others and tolerant of their religions or beliefs
- Do NOT support atheist groups that insist on removing God and Religion from this country
- Allow yourself to speak freely about atheism without demanding other's follow
- Allow yourself to listen openly to others as they speak freely about their religion
- Respect others' rights to prayer, if you do not want to participate at least be silent and allow their moment to talk to their higher power
- Believe in the good of others and treat others how you yourself would like to be treated.
And that's pretty much it. I practice these 8 rules of Fair Atheism and ask that others join me in my fight to end Unfair Atheism. It's OK to believe in God just as it's OK not to believe in God. But what does it say to yourself as a human being when you put fear into those who do believe in God by making it impossible for them to practice the Freedom of Religion our very own constitution grants us? Think about it. Everyone needs a higher power to get them through life, some happen to choose God to do that for them. Which side of the fence would you rather be on?
